Akosua Attah (left) and Madina Sadat (right) holding some of the items retrieved from themThe security officers at the gate of the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison in the Central Region have arrested two female visitors, Madina Sadat and Akosua Attah, who attempted to smuggle prohibited articles, eight mobile phones and their accessories, hidden under their wigs into the prison yard for a convict prisoner (CP) Sadat Mohammed, serving 70 years in hard labour.
According to the Prisons Central Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) Daniel Machator, on the 16th of day July, 2016, about 9:00am, the two women from Kumasi in the Ashanti Region came to visit CP Sadat Mohammed that Madina Sadat claimed to be her husband.
The PRO said that, as the visiting process demanded, the visitors were subjected to thorough search and six Nokia phones, two Techno phones, ten phone chargers, and six USB cords were retrieved from their wigs and hand bags, and upon interrogation, the two women confessed the prohibited items were meant for CP Sadat Mohammed.
Investigations are however underway by the prison authorities to establish the relationship between the prisoner and the visitors, and also unveil how the visitors received information from the prison yard to bring the prohibited articles.
