Frank Tutu. The Prison Ladies Association (PRILAS) of the Ghana Prisons Service has as part of activities marking their 10th Anniversary Celebration, donated items worth Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵5, 000.00) to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
Presenting the items at the hospital premises recently, the national president of the Association and Director of Prisons (DOP) in charge of Welfare, Mrs. Josephine Fredua-Agyemang, said as a women’s group, they were passionate about the welfare of the less privileged, and the donation was meant to bring some relief to the patients of the hospital.
Receiving the items, Dr. Pinamang Apau, the Medical Director of the facility, was grateful for the kind gesture, and said it was timely, as the hospital was going through some challenges due to inadequate budgetary allocation. She appealed to other Associations to emulate what PRILAS had done.
The ladies seized the opportunity to visit some of the wards in the hospital, and shared words of comfort with some of the patients.
The items donated included a poly tank, bags of rice, assorted fruits, detergents, toiletries, sachet water, and water basins.
Early on, the Association donated similar items worth Three Thousand, Two Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH₵3, 200.00) to the James Camp Prison at Roman Ridge, for which the Officer in Charge, Chief Superintendent of Prisons, Francis Selorm Hagbe, was grateful, and noted that the donation will go a long way to improve upon the living standards of the inmates.
