SUPERINTENDENT COMFORT KWASHIE RETIRES
An impressive ceremony was organised to bid Supt. Comfort Adjei Kwashie a befitting farewell as she proceeds on terminal leave prior to her compulsory retirement from the Service after over 39 years of dedicated service to the Ghana Prisons Service and mother Ghana.
The colourful ceremony was held at the Koforidua Prison Canteen on Friday September 6, 2024.
Supt. Comfort Adjei Kwashie was born on February 20, 1965 in Koforidua. She was recruited into the Prisons Service on May 3, 1985 and was posted to Secondi Female Prison after going through six months regimental training at the Prisons Officers Training School (POTS), two months of which were spent on practical attachment at the defunct James Fort Female Prison.
Supt. Kwashie also worked at Akuse Female, Tamale Female and Koforidua Prisons. By dint of hard work, she rose through ranks from secon class (2CO) to the rank of Chief Officer (CO). She was enlisted into the Senior Officers’ Corps and commissioned as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons(ASP) on November 27, 2015 and reposted to Koforidua Prison from where she is proceeding on her terminal leave prior to retirement with the rank of Superintendent of Prisons . She is a proud recipient of the June 4, Long Service and Good Conduct and Ghana @ 50 medals.
Supt. Comfort is married to Mr. Francis Adjei Kwashie, with whom she has four children.
In a brief sermon, Very Rev. Alexander Tawiah Quainoo, speaking on the topic “Leaving a Good Legacy” admonished all present to strive to leave a good legacy. Quoting from 1 Timothy 2:1-10; and Nehemiah 4:6, Very Rev. Quainoo said this will not be achieved easily, but with hard work and enthusiasm, everyone can leave a good legacy.
Mr. Samuel Akolbire (Director of Prisons in charge of Finance and Administration) described Supt. Kwashie as hardworking, saying “it is not easy transitioning from the Junior Officer category into the Senior Officers’ Corps. He described Junior Officers as “those who work for us to take the glory” and urged them to keep giving off their best.
Mr. Benedict Bob-Dery also paid glowing tribute to Supt. Kwashie, saying “you played well a role as my personal advisor during my tenure as Officer In-Charge of Koforidua”
Parting gifts and citations were presented on behalf of the Director-General of Prisons, Koforidua Prison and the Prison Ladies Association (PRILAS) among others by DOP Benedict Bob-Dery, DOP Joana Fofo Tackie-Otoo, DDP Kwaku Ababio Ali and DDP Christopher Hayibor.
Present at the ceremony were Mr. Samuel Akolbire (Director of Prisons In-Charge of Finance and Administration); Mr. Benedict Bob-Dery (Director of Prisons In-Charge of Human Recourse); DOP Joana Fofo Tackie-Otoo Mrs. (Director of Prisons In-Charge of Welfare); DDP Kwaku Ababio Ali (Commanding Officer of Prison Headquarters), DDP Christopher Hayibor (Financial Controller at the Prisons Headquarters) and Supt. Godfred Apeatu Amponsah (Second-in-Command of the Koforidua Prison).
The rest were the Supt. Minister of Calvary Methodist Church, Adweso Circuit – Koforidua, Very Rev. Alexander Tawiah Quainoo ,senior and junior officers of the Koforidua local Prison.
