Director of Prisons/Agric

Mr. Hanson Kwame Adu Awuku is a dynamic prisons officer with strong analytical skills and experience in corrections management. He has 26 years working experience with Prisons Service including two years duty tour with the United Nations Missions in Liberia as Corrections Advisor, Mentor and Agricultural expert.

He was enlisted into the Service on 5th December, 1995 as an Officer Cadet and was commissioned as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons on 5th July, 1996.

Prior to his current appointment as the Director of Prisons in charge of Agriculture, he was the Officer-In-Charge of the Manhyia Local Prison in Kumasi. He has held several command positions including serving as Chief Agricultural officer, Chief Marketing officer, Chief Commercial officer, acting General Staff officer and Welfare Board member of the Service. He has also worked in various prisons establishments including Nsawam Medium Security prisons, Ahinsan Camp prison, Kpando Local prison and Prisons headquarters.

DOP Adu Awuku is hardworking, very committed and duty conscious. His leadership capabilities and positive initiatives have resulted in establishing a number of important partnerships between Prisons Service and some stakeholders. Notable among them are: Prisons and Heifer International as well as GLICO resulting in the Prisons Officers Provident Fund (POPFUND).

His academic qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Marketing) from the University of Ghana Business School, Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Agriculture from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He is a proud product of Pope John’s and Bishop Herman Senior High Schools.

DOP Awuku enjoys listening to music, and is happily married with kids.
