Alhaji lssahaku Yahaya is a chartered Human Resource Management practitioner and a professional correctional officer with 25 years of experience in Prisons Management and Human Resource Management. He was enlisted into the Ghana Prisons Service on June 11,1999 as a cadet officer and successfully commissioned as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons(ASP.) DOP. Yahaya has an in-depth knowledge of Prisons operations and the application of human rights and international standards in the correctional facilities.
Alhaji Issahaku Yahaya is widely known for his strategic thinking and commitment to improving prisoner welfare. He has led initiatives that have enhanced prison management practices and promoted rights of inmates.
He has extensive experience in personnel training, developing corrective measures and stakeholder collaborations.
Before assuming the position as the Director of Prisons in charge of Human Resourse, DOP. Yahaya served as the General Staff Officer (GSO), the Chief Human Resource Officer and the Second in Command at the Ankaful Annex Prison.
As the Chief Human Resource Officer, he led a committee to develop a staffing requirement report which was presented to the Public Service Commission and also initiated a training and development curriculum for staff in alignment with international standards.
Alhaji Yahaya spearheaded recruitment initiatives to improve the capacity to employ qualified health professionals into the Ghana Prisons Service
At the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, he served as the strategic and reporting officer in the Corrections Unit from November 2018 to February 2022.
He assessed and reported on correctional facilities compliance with International Human Right Standards.
DOP. Issahaku Yahaya also contributed to security funding for projects aimed at enhancing prisons systems.
He collaborated with local and national organizations to improve prison operations and conditions for detainees in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He also served at the United Nations Mission in Darfur from the year 2011 to 2014.
Mr. Issahaku Yahaya holds a Master of Arts in Human Resource Management from the University of Cape Coast.
A bachelor of Arts in Geography, Resource Development with Political Science and a Post Graduate Certificate in Public Administration from the University of Ghana, Legon and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration(GIMPA) respectfully.
He has attended several courses including Human Rights and Prison Reform at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Case Management System and Standard Operating Procedures at the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
Specialized Course on Countering Terrorism in Africa and Change Management for Change Champions at the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP).
DOP. Alhaji Issahaku Yahaya is an expert in Prison Management, Human Rights and International Standards for the Treatment of Prisoners.
He is fluent in the English language and basic knowledge in French.
Alhaji Yahaya is happily married and blessed with children.
