Mr. Samuel Kwame Owusu Amponsah was born on the 1st of June 1963. He is an avid achiever, organizer and an excellent team player with about 31 years working experience in the Ghana Prisons Service. He joined the Ghana Prisons Service on the 6th August 1992 and was commissioned into the senior officer corps on 4th August 1995.
Prior to his current appointment as the Director of Prisons in charge of Operations on 1st July, 2022, he was the Eastern Regional Commander and Officer in charge of the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons from the year 2021 to 2022, Ashanti Regional Commander and Officer in charge of Kumasi Central Prison from the year 2019 to 2021, Second in Command at the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons from 2014 to 2019, Acting Officer in charge of Tamale Central Prison, Second-In-Command of Tamale Central Prison, Officer in charge of Manhyia Local Prisons, Chief Transport Officer of Prison Headquarters and head of Technical Services James Camp Prison.
On the educational front, DOP Owusu-Amponsah has a Master of Commerce Degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management from the University of Development Studies, Tamale, Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management studies from the University of Cape Coast, International Diploma in Logistics and Transport from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, and a certificate in Administration and Management studies.
Mr. Owusu-Amponsah has attended several conferences and workshops in his career as a Prisons Officer. These include Good Prison Practice and International Human Rights Standards conference in Nigeria, Road Transport and Management workshop in Accra, Road Safety Awareness workshop, Law Enforcement conference in China and Life Changing Leadership Conference in London.
He is a member of the Ghana Institute of Technician Engineers, Ghana Institute of Incorporated Engineers and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
He is married with 3 children.
