The Director of Prisons in charge of Services and Technical, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie is a Lawyer, having been called to the bar in 2006, a Corrections and Security expert, Policy and Systems Analyst and Strategist. She is a Rule of Law expert, a Social Worker, Coach and a Human Rights advocate with special attention to women, children and youth development and empowerment with exceptional entrepreneurial and business skills.
She has 33 years working experience in Prisons Administration, and has held various managerial Staff and Command positions as an officer. She joined the Service in 1987.
Prior to her current position, she acted as the Director in charge of Health from the year 2020. She has held several command positions including Officer-In-Charge of James Camp Prison, Greater Accra Regional Commander, Chief Legal Officer at the Prisons Headquarters, Regional Legal Officer of Greater Accra, Central and Western regions and Classroom Instructor, Welfare Officer, Course Commander and Adjutant at the Prisons Officers’ Training School.
She also worked at the James Fort female, Senior Correctional Centre, Kumasi Female and Sekondi Female Prisons.
She is knowledgeable and versatile, and holds a Post Graduate Law Degree Certificate from the Ghana Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Sociology from the University of Ghana.
DOP Baffoe-Bonnie also worked with the United Nations Mission in Liberia as a Planner, Mentor and Advisor from 2007 to 2009.
She is a member of the Ghana Olympic Committee Women Commission, Women and Children Committee of the Ghana Bar Association, Africa Union (AU) Women Election Observer Group, and currently the National Vice President of the Prisons Ladies Association.
She was adjudged the Outstanding Female Prison Service Personnel at the 2013 Ghana Women’s Award. She is adventurous and enjoys painting, sports and travelling. She is married with children.
