265 OFFICER CADETS COMMISSIONED AS ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENTS OF PRISONS
The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has commissioned 265 Officer Cadets into the Senior Officer Corps of the Ghana Prisons Service to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP). The passing-out ceremony took place on Tuesday, 2nd November 2025, at the Prisons Officers Training School (POTS), Accra. The graduating officers comprised 162 males and 103 females.
Performing her role as Reviewing Officer, the Vice President commended the Director-General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), for her transformative leadership and commitment to promoting a more humane and reformative correctional system. She highlighted government’s efforts to enhance inmate welfare, noting the significant increase in the daily feeding rate from GHS 1.80 to GHS 5.00, as well as initiatives aimed at improving working conditions for prison officers.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed government’s readiness to support the Ghana Prisons Service in strengthening its operations and delivering effective corrections. She also lauded the THINK PRISONS 360 Degress Initiative, expressing satisfaction with the progress made under the Director-General’s leadership.
The Vice President urged the newly commissioned officers to uphold professionalism, diligence, and integrity as they begin their careers. She further applauded outstanding cadets who excelled in various categories:
Senior Under Officer Abraham Takyi Opoku – Best All-Round Officer Cadet
Mensah Boateng Godwin – Best in Academics
Nyarko Gifty – Commandant’s Award
She also praised the Prisons Regimental Band for their impressive and melodious performance during the ceremony.
Cadet Course Intake 32 commenced their training at the Ankaful Training Centre on Friday, 27th December 2024.
The training comprised three stages: an initial induction and basic regimental phase, followed by a practical field attachment in various prison establishments, and concluding with an advanced phase that refined professional skills, consolidated theoretical and on-the-job experience, and included final academic and practical assessments.
The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak; Chairman of the Prisons Service Council, Apostle Ing. Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi; the Acting Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Samuel Basintele Amadu; members of the Prisons Directorate; representatives from sister security services, former Directors of Prisons; retired officers; and representatives of the Prisons Wives Association.
