ST. VINCENT DE PAUL’S SOCIETY VISITS TAMALE CENTRAL PRISON ON BOXING DAY
St. Vincent de Paul’s Society of the Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) Cathedral Parish, Tamale, paid a charitable visit to the Tamale Central Prison on December 26, 2025, as part of its Boxing Day outreach activities.
Led by the Administrator of the OLA Cathedral, Very Rev. Fr. Thaddeus Kuusah, the team donated assorted items to the inmates, including 20 crates of soft drinks, nine packs of Verna bottled water, 72 packs of cocoa lait biscuits, and 370 packs of cooked jollof rice.
Presenting the items, Fr. Thaddeus explained that the gesture was in fulfilment of a promise he made during an earlier visit to the prison on the feast day of St. Vincent de Paul in September. He emphasized the importance of compassion, solidarity, and Christian service, especially towards the vulnerable in society.
The items were received on behalf of the Northern Regional Commander of Prisons by the Prison Chaplain, Rev. DSP Elvis Danquah, who expressed appreciation to the Society for its continued support and encouraged other groups to emulate the kind gesture.
The visit was enlivened by a melodious performance from the inmates’ choir, which impressed the delegation and inspired Fr. Thaddeus to propose a friendly singing competition between the Cathedral Choir and the inmates’ choir in the future.
In a brief exhortation, Fr. Thaddeus reflected on the humility of Christ’s birth in a manger, describing it as a symbol of God’s deep love and willingness to identify with humanity in its vulnerability. He urged the inmates to remain obedient, embrace rehabilitation, and strive to become positive change agents upon their reintegration into society.
The inmates also appealed for musical instruments, particularly drums, to enhance their worship activities and Fr. Thaddeus promised to support.
