In April, 2020 personnel from the Military, Prisons and Zoomlion Company Limited with support from the Sanitation Ministry and Accra Metropolitan Assembly tackled the filth at some major roads and markets in the capital.

The cleanup exercise which lasted for a week was characterized by all COVID-19 safety protocols and was effectively monitored by the Sanitation Minister, the Military High Command Senior Officers from the Prisons Service and executives from Zoomlion.

The work done included desilting of gutters, weeding along highways, disposing of abandoned garbage, white washing of pavement walls and roundabouts, picking of littered plastics wastes and pruning of overgrown tree branches along the streets.

The area that benefited from this effective and timely clean up exercise includes Tudu station, Makola market, Agbogbloshie market, Tema motorway stretch to the roundabouts.

The exercise continued after the easing of COVID-19 restrictions by the Prisons Service and Zoomlion Company Ltd under the existing “Clean Ghana Campaign” which commenced a year ago but was put on hold due to the partial lockdown.
