PRISON COUNCIL CHAIRMAN LEADS DELEGATION TO ANKAFUL PRISON COMPLEX

The Chairman of the Ghana Prisons Service Council, Apostle Ing. Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, has led a delegation on a familiarisation visit to the Ankaful Prison Complex in the Central Region.

The team toured the various prison establishments and engaged officers and inmates on welfare, rehabilitation and operational challenges.

Inmates expressed gratitude to H.E. President John Dramani Mahama for the recent presidential amnesty while raising concerns about difficulties in obtaining court proceedings for appeals and accessing legal assistance.

The Chairman disclosed that he was in talks with over 100 lawyers who are members of The Church of Pentecost to explore legal support for inmates.

Drawing inspiration from the biblical story of Joseph, the Chairman encouraged inmates to remain hopeful and focused on a better future. He concluded by praying for officers and inmates.

The delegation also visited the infirmaries, where Prof. Ernest Yorke, President of the Ghana Medical Association and a member of the council, offered recommendations on managing available resources and assured the team of his commitment to exploring avenues for additional support to improve healthcare delivery within the facilities.

The visit reaffirms the Council’s commitment to engaging stakeholders, addressing operational challenges and strengthening rehabilitation and reintegration within the Ghana Prisons Service.
