GHANA’S 66TH INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE
The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on Ghanaians to remain united and work together to remove all barriers to national development and also not to take the freedom enjoyed under the 1992 constitution lightly because it came as a result of the sacrifices of our forbearers who has envisaged a free prosperous country.
The President made the call when he delivered his Independence Day message at the Adaklu National Youth Resource Centre in Ho, the Regional Capital of the Volta Region, to mark the 66th Independence Day Celebration. The theme for the anniversary is “Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose”.
The anniversary brought together members of the diplomatic corps, political leaders, religious leaders, traditional authorities, State security agencies and students from some selected schools. The President of Guinea-Bissau and Chairman of ECOWAS, Umaro Sissoco Embalo was the Guest of Honour.
There was a beautiful display of the contingents from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Customs Excise and Preventive Service and the National Ambulance Service.
Also present at the ceremony were the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; the First lady of Ghana, Her Excellency Rebecca Akufo-Addo; the Second Lady, Her Excellency Samira Bawumia; the Director General of Prisons, Mr. Issac Kofi Egyir, the Director of Prisons in charge of Operations, Mr. Samuel Owusu Amponsah and the Volta Regional Commander, DDP. Martin Kwesi Darku.
