SUPPORT FROM CORPORATE GHANA, RELIGIOUS BODIES AND PHILANTHROPISTS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19

SUPPORT FROM CORPORATE GHANA, RELIGIOUS BODIES AND PHILANTHROPISTS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19

In March, 2020 Ghana, recorded its first two COVID-19 positive cases, a development which later compelled the government to make some crucial decisions including a three(3) week partial lockdown, closure of schools, churches, mosques, market centers, churches and a ban on social gatherings.

The need to support the vulnerable amid this global pandemic became inevitable and the Ghana Prisons Service had to reach out to development partners and indeed benefited from the benevolence of some of these partners in these difficult times. Notable among them were McDan Shipping co. Ltd, Crime Check Foundation, Mr. Gyau, Sucryza Distributions Ltd, Star Life Assurance, GLICO Life Insurance, Rev. Owusu Bempah, Airport Rotary Club and the Ghana Buffer Stock in collaboration with Ghana Education Service.

Support ranging from personal protective equipment, food and mattresses, were received at the Prisons Headquarters, Nsawam Medium Security Prison, Ankaful Maximum Seurity Prison, Kumasi Central Prison, James Camp Prison and other prison facilities across the country.

These kind gestures contributed in no small way in complementing government’s effort in the fight against the disease in the country’s prisons.

The Prisons Administration is infinitely grateful to all its partners for the support and wishes to appeal for more support from other corporate bodies and public spirited individuals.
