SUNYANI CENTRAL PRISON HOSTS INAUGURAL SECURITY SERVICES COOKING AND JAMA COMPETITION

On Eid Friday , June 6, 2025, Sunyani Central Prison organized it’s first-ever cooking and Jama competition for security services in the Bono region. The event aimed to foster unity and camaraderie among security personnel while showcasing their culinary and morale singing skills.
Participants included representatives from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Ambulance Service, Ghana immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service and the Prison Officers’ Wives Association (PROWA).
The competition featured variety of segments, including cooking, jama, dancing ,eating and a quiz. Winners of each category received awards and products from event sponsors.


In his address, Deputy Director of Prisons(DDP) Thompson Otsyokpo, Regional Commander for the Bono, Ahafo and Bono East regions, expressed his delight at hosting the event . He highlighted the importance of such occasions in building bonds among the various security agencies.
“Security work is inherently stressful and demanding .Events like this provide a valuable opportunity for relaxation, socialisation and mutual learning,”DDP Otysokpo stated.
He emphasized that the competition reflected the spirit of collaboration and unity, which is essential for maintaining peace and security .
He encouraged all participants to share their skills , learn from one another, make new friends and enjoy the experience.
At the end of the cooking competition, Ghana Police Service emerged winners, followed by the Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana Ambulance Service, who placed second and third respectively. The Ghana Prisons Service came in fourth while PROWA and the Fire Service secured fifth and sixth positions. All participants received awards and products from sponsors.


In the Jama competition Ghana Ambulance service claimed first place , with the Prisons and Immigration Services followed in second and third. The fire and Police Services placed fourth and fifth respectively.
The event featured an exhibition area where products and paraphernalia from Sunyani Central and Female Prisons industries were showcased. Products from individual participants were also displayed.
The exhibition area highlighted the creative endeavours of the Prisons and individual participants, adding another dimension to the event.
The event was proudly sponsored by Gino and Pomo tomato pastes, Danmailla Gari Mix, Tasty Tom tomato paste, Peeva drinks, Frytol and Bediako bitters .Media coverage was provided by Adom TV, Ark Fm, Bono Fm and Radio BAR .
