“UPHOLD THE QUALITY STANDARDS AND GOOD CONDUCTS – CSP. ADWOA AMOFAA AGYENA.
Chief Superintendent of Prisons(CSP)Adwoa Amofaa Agyena, the acting Commandant of Ankaful Prison Officers Training School has admonished all new Second-Class Officers who were recently posted to the various prison establushments.
According to the acting Commandant, it is very important for the officers who have reported at various stations to uphold a virtue of due diligence in approaching their mandates as principled prison officers.
Giving a clarion call, she indicated that the new 2CO’s should always remember and abide by the Ghana Prisons Service motto which expatiates on Vigilance, Humanity and Fortitude as their tenents.
Emphasising on the aforementioned admonishment, Chief Superintendent Adwoa Agyena underscored on the need for safety and security, by prioritizing and maintaining a safe and secure environment for both staff and inmates.
CSP. Agyena mentioned that, the new 2CO’s must adhere to effective communication skills or develop strong communication skills to effectively interact with inmates, colleagues, and senior officers.
Adding that, these new 2CO’s must learn and adopt de-escalation techniques in their line of duties in order to calm tense situations and prevent conflicts when it arises.
“You must put in place high professionalism and boundaries in order to maintain professional boundaries, respect inmates’ rights, and uphold the law whenever you are at work “, she stressed.
The Ankaful Prison Officers Training School Commandant noted that teamwork and support must go hand-in-hand to foster a collaborative work environment, seek support from colleagues, and report concerns or incidents promptly.
She charged them to continuously learn by observing and paying attention to their superiors which would help them to stay updated on occurrences, procedures, and best practices to improve performance and adapt to changing situations in the yard.
In this line of work she said, you must accurately document incidents, interactions, and other relevant information that transpires in the yard or cells.
She noted that when these new 2CO’s focus on the aforementioned highlights, it would help build a strong foundation for a successful and fulfilling career that would put Ghana Prisons Service on a higher pedestal to catapult the “Think Prisons 360” agenda.
