GOLDEN PILLARS FOUNDATION DONATES 300 BIRDS TO SUPPORT PRISONS SPECIAL INITIATIVES UNDER THE “THINK PRISONS 360 DEGREES INITIATIVE
The Golden Pillars Foundation has donated 300 poultry birds, together with feed and essential veterinary medication, to the Sunyani Central Poultry Farm in a major intervention aimed at strengthening agricultural productivity and supporting inmate rehabilitation.
The donation marks an expansion of the Foundation’s long-standing support for institutions within the Sunyani municipality. In previous years, the Foundation regularly supplied eggs to the Sunyani Central Prison and Female Prison to supplement inmate nutrition. This time, however, the Foundation has shifted from direct food support to sustainable capacity building.
Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Madam Ranti Adjaku, said the decision to supply live birds was strategic. She explained that the poultry project would allow inmates to learn hands-on poultry management skills while also producing eggs for their daily rations. According to her, empowering the facility to produce its own eggs promotes both sustainability and practical training.
The Bono,Ahafo and Bono East Regional Commander of Prisons, DDP. Thompson Otsyokpo, expressed great excitement and appreciation for the gesture. He assured the Foundation that, the birds would receive the best care and added that the support would significantly enhance the facility’s rehabilitation programs and food production capacity.
DDP. Otsyokpo noted that through the “Think Prisons 360 Degrees” initiative, the prison has adopted agriculture as a strategic tool for rehabilitation, skills development, and food sustainability. He emphasized that the support is timely, as the facility plans to expand its poultry farm. He added that the feed and medication provided will also make managing the poultry much easier.
The Regional commander used the occasion to call on other organizations and stakeholders to support, collaborate, and partner the Prisons Service in order to achieve the objectives of the “Think Prisons 360 degrees” initiative.
The Foundation’s latest donation underscores how purposeful, sustainable interventions can drive lasting impact in the Prison community.
