DIRECTOR GENERAL OF PRISONS HOSTS CHRISTMAS JAMBOREE IN NAVRONGO.

The Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie(Esq) on Monday, December 22, 2025, held the maiden edition of the Director General’s Christmas Jamboree for children in the Navrongo prison community, in the Upper East region.

The coloful event celebrated with the theme “Obaatanpa, every child deserves love”, gathered close to 300 children from the Kassena Nankana municipal assembly at the Navrongo prison canteen.

The celebration opened with a guard of honor for the Director General of Prisons and continued sequentialy with performances in choreography, poetry recitals themed to honor the Director General of Prisons.The side attractions for the celebration were face paintings and jama session with the Disciples moral group to charge and maintain a jubilant atmosphere.

The children who were filled with joy throughout the celebration actively competed in activities such as Spelling B, Apple hunt, Musical chairs, Sack race, Lime and Spoon, Bottle filling and Color painting.

Mrs. Baffoe- Bonnie in her remarks, welcomed the children to the maiden Obaatanpa christmas jamboree for children of prison officers and families within the entire prison community. She entreated them to stay focused on their education, be obedient and God fearing.

The Director General had a dance session with the children and presented the Obaatanpa christmas gift to all who were present. Awards were also presented to winners of the various activities.

The event winded up with the presentation of citation and other gifts to Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie by the children, the Upper East regional commander DDP. Augustine Bopam and the Navrongo- Prison Ladies Association(PRILAS) respectfully.

Among the dignitaries who graced the celebration were the Kologo Chief, Naba Atandari IV; the Municipal Chief Executive of the Kassena- Nankana municipality, Hon.Faustina Akeyom Abulu; the Director of Prisons in charge of Welfare/ Inmate Treatment, DOP. Millicent Owusu and the Director in charge of Technical/ Legal Affairs, DOP. Paul Teye Ademan(Esq).

The rest were the Northern regional commander of Prisons, DDP. Obed Aquaye; the Director of Public Affairs, DDP. Janet Asabea; representatives of the Navro-Pio; members of the Prison Officers Wives Association- Navrongo (PROWA) and other sister security agencies in the municipality.
