DIRECTOR GENERAL OF PRISONS CUTS SOD FOR 250-UNIT STAFF ACCOMMODATION AT EJURA.
The Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq), on Thursday, January 22, 2026 joined the Ejurahene, Barima Osei Hwedie II, to cut sod for the construction of a new 250-unit barracks accommodation for officers at the Ejura Settlement Camp Prison.
The project, championed by the Ejurahene with support from the Municipal Chief Executive, St. Luke Hospital, the Amoako Tuffour Foundation, and other partners, directly tackles the longstanding national challenge of inadequate housing for Prison Officers across the country.
In her remarks, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie emphasized the critical link between staff welfare and operational excellence. “Without adequate and well-structured accommodation, complemented by recreational facilities, proper nutrition, healthcare, and training, we cannot achieve optimal performance or successful rehabilitation of inmates”, she stated.
The Director General expressed profound gratitude to the Ejurahene and the Traditional Council for their sustained commitment to security. “Nana Ejurahene, Honourable MCE, on behalf of the Service, I pledge to be a faithful steward of this land and of the trust you have placed in us. We will work diligently to ensure this project yields maximum benefit for our officers, the inmates in our care, and the entire Ejura community,” she affirmed.
During the ceremony, Nana Ejurahene, Barima Osei Hwedie II, formally presented the title documents for a 450-acre parcel of arable land granted to the Ghana Prisons Service a decade ago. He commended the Director General for her dedicated leadership in bringing development to the area.
In a further show of support, the Municipal Chief Executive pledged a donation of 10,500 concrete blocks towards the barracks construction, while the local Nigerian community contributed 40 bags of cement.
The auspicious event was attended by the Municipal Chief Executive, members of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), representatives from the Christian Council of Churches and Islamic clergy, and other dignitaries.
