DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF PRISONS ADDRESSES EJURA OFFICERS, UNVEILS STAFF SUPPORT INITIATIVES

The Director-General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, Esq., has addressed officers of the Ejura Settlement Camp Prison, unveiling a number of initiatives aimed at improving staff welfare, strengthening discipline, and enhancing operational efficiency.

The durbar, held at the prison chapel, brought together senior officers, junior officers, and Prison Officer Assistants. The engagement was facilitated by the Officer-In-Charge of the facility, Superintendent George Ntumy.

In her address, the Director-General reaffirmed management’s commitment to staff welfare, announcing that plans are far advanced to provide a dedicated service bus to transport officers to and from work. The long-anticipated initiative is expected to ease transportation challenges, particularly for officers commuting from outside the Ejura Nkwanta township.

Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie also delivered a strong message on drug desistance, urging officers to reject the use and circulation of narcotics within the prison environment. She emphasized that drug abuse compromises security, rehabilitation efforts, and the overall health of both staff and inmates, and called for collective vigilance to keep the facility free from illicit substances.

Touching on infrastructure, the Director-General acknowledged the deplorable state of the access road leading to the prison. She assured officers that the Service would engage relevant authorities to prioritize the construction of the road, bringing a lasting solution to the persistent dust and mud challenges.

On matters of integrity, the Director-General cautioned all personnel against acts of theft, stressing that stealing from inmates, colleagues, or the facility contravenes the core values of the Ghana Prisons Service and will attract severe disciplinary sanctions. She urged officers to serve as models of honesty and professionalism.

Following the durbar, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie met separately with Prison Officer Assistants, admonishing them to be punctual and exhibit exemplary conduct to enhance their chances of eventual recruitment into the mainstream Service.

Superintendent George Ntumy expressed gratitude to the Director-General for the visit and the frank engagement, assuring her of the staff’s commitment to uphold all directives and work towards improved service delivery.

The durbar also provided an opportunity for open interaction, as officers shared concerns and expressed appreciation for management’s responsiveness to their welfare and operational needs.
