UNODC HANDS OVER MORDEN KITCHEN AND DINING HALL TO SUNYANI FEMALE PRISON.
A newly constructed modern kitchen and dining hall has been officially commissioned and handed over to the Sunyani Female Prison in Sunyani, a project fully funded by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The project, which marks a significant improvement in infrastructure at the facility, involved the construction and installation of a fully functional and modern kitchen complex designed to enhance food preparation, safety, and hygiene standards within the prison.
The facility is equipped with gas cylinders and modern gas cookers, improved plumbing systems, proper ventilation, and reliable electrical installations.
Adequate lighting and a dependable water supply system have also been installed to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations. The dining hall provides a more organized and hygienic space for meals, contributing to better overall welfare within the prison.
Prior to the official handover, all equipment and installations underwent comprehensive testing to ensure full functionality and compliance with safety standards. Water systems, drainage networks, electrical fittings, and cooking equipment were carefully inspected and confirmed to be in good working condition.
At the commissioning ceremony, the Officer-in-Charge, CSP. Diana Durowaah Kwarteng, together with CSP. William Opata, In-Charge of Industries, and other officers, inspected the facility and expressed satisfaction with the quality of work delivered.
They commended UNODC for the support and commitment to improving correctional infrastructure.
Basic operational guidance and maintenance instructions were provided to the kitchen staff to ensure proper usage and longevity of the equipment.
The completion and handover of the modern kitchen and dining hall is expected to significantly improve meal preparation processes, raise hygiene standards, and create a safer and more efficient working environment for both staff and inmates at the Sunyani Female Prison.
The initiative underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between international organizations and national institutions in promoting humane conditions within correctional facilities.
