GHANA PRISONS SERVICE HOLDS 5TH HIV WORKSHOP

The Ghana Prisons Service, in collaboration with the National AIDS Control Programme with support from the Global Fund, held its 5th HIV Workshop on Thursday, 4th September, 2026, at the Plush Royal Hotel, Adenta.

The workshop was organised to equip health officers and HIV focal persons to effectively transmit accurate information on HIV to officers and inmates, improve the handling of HIV in prisons, and deal with public stigmatization.

The Director of Prisons in charge of Health, DOP Joana Fofo Tackie-Otoo (Mrs.), said the workshop reflects the Service’s commitment to the health and dignity of persons in custody. She said it proves NACP’s sustained technical cooperation with the Ghana Prisons Service and expressed gratitude to NACP for advancing quality healthcare within the Service.

She urged participants to transmit the knowledge to officers and inmates effectively and expressed hope that officers will gain the necessary knowledge to support NACP in the fight against HIV and its stigma.

Resource persons from NACP made presentations covering HIV Prevention, Stigma and Discrimination, Care and Treatment in Prisons, and linkage to health and community-based services following release.

Also present was the Service’s National HIV Coordinator, DDP Wilson Sallah.
