GHANA PRISONS HOSTS ACSA EXECUTIVE AND PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETINGS

The African Correctional Services Association (ACSA) has held its Executive and the 6th biannual conference planning committee meetings in Accra, Ghana.


The 5-day meetings which started on Monday, 13th June, 2022 with a-3-day session by the planning committee and continued with the executive committee meeting from Wednesday, 25th June 2022, ended with a dinner on Friday 17th June, 2022.
Receiving the delegates in his office, the Director-General of Prisons, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir expressed the Ghana Prisons Service’s joy and readiness to host the meeting, describing it as a privilege.


He assured the delegates of their security and safety during their stay in the country and entreated them to enjoy the Ghanaian hospitality as they embark on the assignment for which they have come to assemble here in Ghana.
The Chairman of ACSA, the Director-General of the Mozambique National Penitentiary Service, Mr. Antonio Augusto Maurice, thanked the Ghana Prisons Service for accepting to host the meeting and commended the Prisons Administration for the excellent arrangements put in place as well as the warm reception accorded them.


African Correctional Services Association is a continental grouping of Prisons and Correctional Services of Africa. It currently has an active membership of thirty-two/32 African countries.
The Executive Committee members present were the chairman, Mr. Antonio Maurice, Director-General of the Mozambique National Penitentiary Service, the vice-chairperson, Madam Rose Muhisoni, Commissioner-General of Rwanda Prisons Service, the treasurer, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir, Director-General of Ghana Prisons, the Principal Officer, Mr. Francis Omane-Addo, Director of Prisons responsible for Welfare and human Resource Development of Ghana Prisons Service and the Secretary, Mr. Julius Aloka of the Uganda Prisons Service.


Others were the Vice-Chair of the Western African Regional block and Commissioner-General of Senegal Prisons Service, Col. Jean Bertrand Bocande; the vice-chair of the Eastern African Regional Block and Commissioner-General of Kenya Prisons Service, Brigadier-General John k. Warioba, Vice-chair of the Southern African Regional Block and Commissioner-General of Eswatini Correctional Service, Madam Phindike Nomvuka Dlamini and Madam Wandika Grace Phiri, Commissioner-General of Walawi Prisons Service.
The rest were the Liaison Officers of the various countries present. In all, nine African counties including Ghana participated in the meeting.


Also present at the opening ceremony were the Director of Prisons (DOP)/ Services & Technical, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie; DOP/ Health, Mr. Samuel Adjei Attah and DOP/Agriculture, Mr. Hanson Adu Awuku.
