COMMISSIONING OF A MECHANISED BOREHOLE AND LABORATORY FOR HO PRISONS

The Volta Regional Prisons Commander, Deputy Director Of Prisons (DDP) Raphael Kwesi Tuekpe, on Thursday 25th July, 2024, commissioned a Mechanised Borehole for the usage of both inmates and officers of Ho Central and Female Prisons.

The project was funded by the Afadjato South Member of Parliament, Hon. Angela Alorwu- Tay with support from the Regional Commander, DDP. Tuekpe.

In her address, Hon Angela Alorwu-Tay revealed that, she has been a friend to the Ho Central and Female prisons Since 2021 when she sourced for funds from parliament for the purchase of medical equipment for the Infirmary, now Reformers Health Centre.

She said the mechanised borehole will enable smooth flow of water for both officers and inmates. She later donated some assorted drugs and medications to the station’s Health Centre.

A refurbished medical laboratory which was an initiative of DDP. Tuekpe and single handedly funded its refurbishment was also commissioned the same day.

The Director General of Prisons, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir in an address read on his behalf by the Volta Regional Commander expressed his gratitude to Hon. Alorwu-Tay for her immense support to the Ho Central Prison.

The Director General urged the officers to make good use of the facilities and ensure a good maintenance culture.

The projects which were initiatives of DDP. Tuekpe were later commissioned by him on behalf of the Director General of Prisons and was assisted by Hon. Angela Alorwu-Tay.

The Regional Commander in an interview with the media appealed to NGOs and other benevolent organizations to come to the aid of the prison by helping transform and reform the inmates. He said prison is always the second home for everyone because the future is always unknown and so their donations and support will go a long way to help in ensuring the welfare of the prisoners.
