The Sunyani Central and Female Prisons, on Friday 12th January, 2024, held their annual end of year party at the Sunyani Central Prison canteen, in Sunyani in the Bono region.
The celebration marked the end of a successful year which brought together officers from the Central and female prisons as well as some major stakeholders of the command.
The Bono, Ahafo and Bono East Regional commander, D.D.P Williams Kulah in his address mentioned that coming together is just not about having a good time, but also creating a sense of friendship and connection among officers, offering a platform of networking, fostering a sense of belonging and unity that transcends daily tasks as well as rekindling motivation through enjoyment and merry making.
He thanked officers for their efforts, hardwork, commitment and dedication throughout the year 2023, despite the numerous challenges it presented.

He cited that, inmates at the Central Prison are taken through various vocational and technical programs such as tailoring, carpentry, shoemaking, dressmaking, kente weaving and smock making with the aim of developing their skills, in order to avoid reoffending and also aid in the process of re-integration upon discharge.
DDP Williams Kulah also revealed that four inmates who passed through senior high school education at the Central Prison have successfully gained admissions to the university.
This, he said, has never happened in the history of the command and is one of the highlights of the year 2023.
He went on to acknowledge the support and collaboration between the command and sister security agencies, government agencies, the private sector, well-meaning individuals, philanthropists as well as faith based organizations
.
The Regional commander commended the Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Owusu-Banahene for her unflinching support and also to Mr. Sam Bennett who has been a long term partner to the command.
“Mr. Bennett has refurbished the inmate’s ablution and toilet facility in the Central Prison, donated large quantities of food items, gym equipment and also supported with the payment of the university admission fees for the inmates”, he added.
He thanked Rotary club of Sunyani East, the Bono Regional Complementary Education Agency, formally the Non-Formal Education Division and Madam Vivian Ansu for their unflinching support during the year under review.
