NTERIOR MINISTER PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO PRISONS HEADQUARTERS
The Minister for the interior, Hon. Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka yesterday, Monday February 17, 2025 paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir at the Prisons headquarters in Accra.

The visit was aimed at familiarising the Minister with the operations of the service and afford him needed information about the existing challenges of the Ghana Prisons Service (GPS) and the way forward in addressing them.
Hon. Mubarak Muntaka inspected a guard of honour on his arrival at the Prisons headquarters, after which he held a meeting with the Prison’s Directorate and a forum with personnel from the Greater Accra regional command.

He highlighted that, the Prisons Service faces numerous challenges that have hindered its operations over the years, despite the crucial role the service plays.
Hon. Muntaka noted that the GPS is facing infrastructure deficits, including inadequate housing, vehicles,logistics and lack of technological advancements in their operations.

The Minister however, recognised the efforts of the service in providing safe custody, welfare and rehabilitation for inmates and assured that, his Ministry would collaborate with Prisons management to ensure substantial resources for the service.
The Director-General of Prisons, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir expressed his gratitude for the visit and stated that, the gesture has brought hope and boosted morale of personnel.

He thanked the Minister for his support in the quest of the service to provide humane and secured custody for inmates as well as improvements in personnel welfare.
The Minister was accompanied by Mrs. Doreen Annan, Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Enoch Amo Boadu, Director of Public policy, Budget, Monitoring and Evaluation, Madam Rebecca Asor Barden, Director of Human Resource Management and Mr. Ahmed Munir, Personal Assistant to the Minister.
