VOLTA REGIONAL PRILAS MARKS FOUNDERS DAY WITH COOKING COMPETITION

The Volta Regional chapter of Prisons Ladies Association (PRILAS) has marked this year’s founders day holiday with a mega cooking competition among the various groups of the association. The cooking competition took place at the Ho Central Prisons Canteen on Monday, 5th August, 2024.

Six groups were created out of the twelve groups within the association for the purpose of the competition, to battle out. The groups were Moonstone & Beryl, Sugilite & Ruby, Sapphire &Garnet, Amber &Amethyst, Jasper &Emerald and Jade &Morgan hill. It was an interesting and a challenging competition among the groups since they all presented their best to contest.

The Volta Regional PRILAS President, ADP. Mandy Mensah who doubles as the Officer In Charge of the Ho Female Prison mentioned that the cooking competition formed part of PRILAS activities scheduled for the year 2024. She said most regions have already executed that task and it’s now the turn of the Volta Region.

According to ADP. Mensah, the best performed contestants will represent the region in the national cooking competition. She urged the officers to make good use of the occasion to make merry and distress due to nature of the Prison work.

The Principal Judge for the competition, Madam Esther Agbolah spelt out the rules before the start of the competition. She advised the contestants to focus on three main areas which were presentation of items, creativity and uniqueness of dishes and cleanliness .

At the end of the competition , Amber & Amethyst were adjudged the winners of the competition with a total score of 94%. Their menu was Tubaani with pepper/tomato gravy and Sobolo as their side attraction. Jasper & Emerald and Jade & Morgan Hill took the second and third positions respectively and were awarded with gifts.

The former Volta Regional Commander DDP. Raphael Kwasi Tuekpe was the special guest of honor and also the chairman for the event. He commended the winners for a good work done and wished the other contestants a better luck in their next competition.

DDP. Tuekpe also expressed appreciation to the organizers and the regional PRILAS executives for a successful event. He also suggested to the organizers to maintain the event so that it will be held every quarter for the officers.

Aside the cooking competition, there was a Talent Hunt Show dubbed ‘PRILAS Got Talent’ where officers from the various groups showcased their talents such as hair styling, modeling, dancing, barbering, make-ups among others.

Present were ADP. Francis Akakpo Dotsey 2IC Ho Central Prison, C/Supt. Wilson Gagakuma, Supt. Isaac Boakye, Supt. Alhaji D. N Apusigah the regional PRO, and DSP. Ali Mustapha.

Others were Chef Jerry Nii Otoo, an assistant judge of the competition and Mr. Marvin Mensah, a lecturer at the Ho Technical University.
