LET’S MAKE AGRICULTURE OUR TRUMP CARD-DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF PRISONS
The Director-General of Prisons, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir, has urged prison officers to strive to make agriculture the panacea to the Service’s financial challenges.
Mr. Egyir made the call last Tuesday, when he paid a working visit to prisons farms as part of his tour of prisons establishments in the Ashanti Region. Stations visited were Obuasi Local, Ahinsan Camp, Ejura Camp, Kumasi Central and Female Prisons.
The Director-General of Prisons noted that the Service has a comparative advantage in the area of agriculture as it can boast of vast arable lands, labour and officers with professional agricultural background.
He disclosed that the Service was collaborating with some strategic partners to expand the Service’s agricultural production, adding that one of such partnerships has already taken off on a pilot basis in Nsawam, Kpando and Ejura. He intimated that the organization would provide funding and resources while the Service would provide land, labour and expertise.
He entreated officers to put their shoulders to the wheel and rally behind the Prisons Administration in its drive to embark on pragmatic measures to turn the fortunes of the Service around.
“Some of our sister agencies have means of generating income internally. Where we also have a comparative advantage is agriculture and if we do it well, we can generate revenue to bridge the funding gap”, he stressed.
The Director-General of Prisons commended staff for their performance over the past year and entreated them to work harder to make the strategic direction and vison of the Prisons Administration a success.
