DIRECTOR GENERAL OF PRISONS PAYS WORKING VISIT TO THE UPPER EAST REGION
As part of ongoing stakeholder engagements under the Ghana Prisons Service reset agenda, the Director General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), has undertaken a working visit to the Upper East Region.
The visit commenced with a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Navrongo Traditional Area, Navro-Pio Asagpaare II, at his palace, in line with custom and tradition.
Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie and her delegation were later received at the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council by the Regional Coordinating Director, Alhaji Mohammed Issahaku, on behalf of the Regional Minister. Discussions focused on strengthening collaborations to ensure the safe custody and effective management of inmates in the region. Key among the issues discussed was the proposed renovation and expansion of a temporary holding facility for remand inmates, with plans to incorporate essential infrastructure reflective of a modern, secure prison facility.
As part of the visit, the Director-General also paid a working call on the Irrigation Company of Upper Region (ICOUR) to explore possible partnerships in agricultural mechanisation under the THINK PRISONS 360 DEGREES initiative. The Managing Director of ICOUR, Mr. Dominic Anarigide, together with members of management, welcomed the initiative and assured the Prisons Service of their support. He indicated ICOUR’s readiness to make its larger dam available to the Service for agricultural activities under the Feed Ghana Project.
ICOUR has already supported the Navrongo Central Prison in its aquaculture project and reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate further with the Ghana Prisons Service to enhance agricultural production and inmate rehabilitation through skills training.
The Director-General was accompanied on the visit by the Director of Prisons in Charge of Welfare and Inmates Treatment, Mrs. Millicent Owusu; the Director in Charge of Technical and Legal Affairs, Mr. Paul Teye Ademan; the Upper East Regional Commander, DDP. Augustine Bopam; the Northern Regional Commander, DDP. Obed Kofi Aquaye; the Director of Public Affairs, DDP. Janet Asabea; the Executive Secretary, ADP. Michael Osei Akoto; as well as other senior officers from Prisons Headquarters and the Navrongo Central Prison.
