DIRECTOR GENERAL OF PRISONS INTERACTS WITH INMATES OF TAMALE CENTRAL AND FEMALE PRISONS
The Director General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, paid a working visit to the Tamale Central and Female Prisons as part of ongoing efforts to enhance inmate welfare and strengthen rehabilitation programmes.
Addressing inmates of both facilities, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to improving their living conditions. She assured inmates of measures being taken to improve the nutritional value of their meals, expand skills training programmes, and increase access for remand prisoners to benefit from the Justice for All Programme.
Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie also disclosed ongoing engagements aimed at enrolling all inmates onto a special health insurance scheme to ensure improved and accessible healthcare delivery. She encouraged inmates to remain hopeful and prayerful, stressing that positive transformation takes time. “It is just a matter of time, God’s glory will manifest in your lives,” she assured.
As part of the visit, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie inspected key facilities within the prison, including the infirmary, workshops, remand block, female yard, stores, and the diagnostic centre, to assess conditions and operational needs.
She was accompanied by the Director of Prisons in charge of Welfare and Inmate Treatment, DOP Millicent Owusu; the Director in charge of Technical and Legal Affairs, DOP Paul Teye Ademan (Esq.); and the Executive Secretary, ADP Michael Osei Akoto.
