On Monday, January 19, 2026, the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs. Patience Baffoe Bonnie(Esq) paid a courtesy call on the Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. Charity Gardiner, as part of her regional tour. The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Prisons Service and regional authorities.

The Director-General was welcomed by the Regional Minister and five District Chief Executives, namely Dauda Hafiz (Asutifi North), Benjamin Asabil (Asutifi South), Joseph Akparibo (Asunafo North), Benjamin Yinka (Asunafo South), and Pius Opoku, Municipal Chief Executive for Tano North.

Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie was accompanied by a high-powered delegation from the Ghana Prisons Service, including DDP. Charles Ameyaw(Esq), the Chief Legal Officer; DDP. Thompson Otsyokpo, Regional Commander for Bono, Ahafo and Bono East; DDP. Janet Asabea, Head of Public Affairs; and ADP. Michael Akoto, Executive Secretary to the Director-General of Prisons.

In her welcome address, Hon. Charity Gardiner expressed delight at meeting the Director-General in person for the first time. She also revealed plans to establish a female prison in the Ahafo region as part of efforts to improve correctional infrastructure and gender-sensitive custodial services.

Presenting her vision, Mrs. Baffoe -Bonnie outlined the Service’s flagship reset agenda dubbed “Think Prisons 360 Degrees,” which focuses on holistic reforms and strategic partnerships. She hinted on a sanitation partnership with Zoomlion and appealed to the regional minister to assist in liaising with local assemblies to allocate dedicated spaces for sanitation facilities.

The Director-General also called for support in resource mobilization, requesting access to confiscated illegal mining equipment such as drilling machines and excavators to enhance the Service’s agricultural projects. She further emphasized the need for improved security, formal recognition, and structured training support for prison officers, stressing the importance of reshaping public perception of the Ghana Prisons Service.

On infrastructure, DGP. Baffoe -Bonnie appealed for assistance in constructing a proper perimeter wall to upgrade the local prison facility to the required standard. She also mentioned ongoing litigation in Duayaw Nkwanta, expressing hope for a peaceful resolution.

In her closing remarks, the Director-General thanked Hon. Charity Gardiner for her warm reception and commended her for the exemplary leadership and commitment to regional development.
