KLG FOUNDATION DONATES BUILDING MATERIALS TO TAMALE CENTRAL PRISON
The KLG Foundation, in collaboration with Savannah Alliance Ghana, has donated a significant quantity of building materials to the Tamale Central Prison to support ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and inmate welfare. The donation, made on 24th December 2025, followed a request by the Northern Regional Commander, DDP. Obed Kofi Acquaye, after a comprehensive facility assessment conducted in June 2025 revealed severe structural challenges, including leaking cell roofs.
In line with the Think Prisons 360° initiative, DDP Acquaye reached out to several corporate bodies and non-governmental organisations for support, with KLG Foundation responding positively to the call.
The items presented by Mr. Nii Ankonu Annorba-Sarpei on behalf of the Foundation included:
- 23 buckets of paint
- 180 bags of cement
- 166 pieces of 2×6 wood (Nekal)
- 26 pieces of 1¼-inch PVC conduit
- 2 yards of wall felt
- A box of assorted electrical items
- Electrical cables packed in three sacks
- One air-conditioning unit
- Eight boxes of 4-inch nails
- Six boxes of 3-inch nails
- Fifteen boxes of roofing nails
- Fifteen packets of roofing sheets
- Two time switches
- One submersible pump
- One roll of leshatape
- Thirty PVC suckers
- Fifty PVC holders
Presenting the items, Mr. Annorba-Sarpei stated that the donation reflects the Foundation’s commitment to improving conditions within correctional facilities, enhancing inmate welfare, and contributing to better mental health outcomes for persons in custody.
Receiving the items, DDP Acquaye, expressed profound gratitude to the Foundation. He noted that the Tamale Central Prison, established in 1914, has seen limited infrastructural upgrades over the years, making the donation both timely and impactful. He emphasized that the support aligns strongly with the welfare component of the Think Prisons 360° initiative.
DDP Acquaye assured that all donated materials would be judiciously used for their intended purposes and appealed to other corporate bodies, faith-based organisations, and benevolent individuals to emulate the KLG Foundation’s gesture in supporting prison development and inmate welfare.
