GENDER UNIT HOLDS CAPACITY-BUILDING TRAINING FOR OFFICERS

The Gender Unit of the Ghana Prisons Service has organized a one-day capacity building training for Regional and Station Gender Focal persons at the Prison Officers Training School on Wednesday , 18th March, 2026.

Held under the theme “ Wake up to purpose”, the interactive session aimed to strengthen gender mainstreaming, professional development and institutional inclusivity in the Service. Director of Prisons for Welfare and Inmate Treatment, Mrs. Millicent Owusu opened the programme, stressing that the training was designed “to help women give meaning and make gains in their lives.”

Mrs. Patience Antonio, the Executive Director – Women’s Leadership Development Institute and Mrs. Joyce Dankwah, a gender consultant led the discussions on purpose and ways to find purpose. “Anything you do routine will never achieve purpose. Don’t wake up to routine but purpose”, they urged participants.

Also present at the training session were Deputy Director of Prisons in charge of the Gender Unit, Mrs. Sophia Osei Bonsu, Deputy Director of Prisons in charge of Human Resources, Mr. Joseph Nyankey and the Commandant of the Prisons Officers Training School, DDP Isaac Abuaku-Ameyaw.
