As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and in celebration of attaining autonomous university status, the Accra Metropolitan University has awarded scholarships to ten selected inmates of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison to pursue Master’s Degree programmes.

The scholarship package, which represents the first batch of beneficiaries under the university’s scholarship scheme, was presented during a working visit by a delegation from the university led by Dr. Maxwell Dela Yao Gakpo, Dean of Academics and Student Affairs, and Mr. Emmanuel Debrah, Senior Assistant Registrar. The delegation was accompanied by a team from the Ghana Prisons Service Headquarters led by DDP Joseph Yankey, Director in Charge of Education, together with two other officers.

Addressing the station’s management and the beneficiaries, Dr. Gakpo explained that the initiative forms part of the university’s commitment to giving back to society through education.

He further emphasized that education remains a powerful catalyst for change and expressed optimism that the beneficiaries would make good use of the opportunity to improve themselves and contribute positively to society upon their release.

Speaking on behalf of the Education Unit, CSP. Paul Nubepour, Officer in Charge of Education at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, expressed profound appreciation to the management of the school for their generosity and commitment to inmate education. He noted that the scholarship opportunity would greatly enhance the academic and personal development of the beneficiaries and further strengthen ongoing efforts to use education as a tool for rehabilitation and reintegration.
