THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL AND ADEHYEƐ’S ART EXHIBITION
The Ghana Prisons Service has held its maiden Director-General and Adehyeɛ’s Art Exhibition as part of the Think Prisons 360 degrees initiative, aimed at using creative arts as a tool for reformation and rehabilitation.
The two-day event, held from Thursday, 8th to Friday, 9th, October 2026, showcased paintings, crafts and other creative pieces produced by the Director-General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), and inmates (Adehyeɛ) from various prison establishments.
The first day of the exhibition featured visits from students of selected schools in Accra; Kinbu Senior High Technical School, Labone SHS and Rangoon School, who had the opportunity to view the displayed artworks, interact with artists and learn about the role of creative arts in inmate rehabilitation. The engagement also provided a platform to educate the students on correctional services and encourage a better understanding of the need to support the reformation and reintegration of inmates.
The second day of the exhibition brought together dignitaries and other invited guests for the main event, which featured speeches, performances by the Master Piece Band, the Adehyeɛ Band from the Nsawam Medium Security Prison (NMSP), Fearless Echoes and a poetry recital by an inmate. These performances added to the atmosphere of the event while showcasing the creative and artistic talents of inmates and officers.
Addressing the gathering, the Director-General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), said the ultimate plan of the exhibition is to give inmates the opportunity to turn waste into powerful art pieces. She noted that the day was to redefine how society sees prisoners and their works, adding that proceeds from the auction of exhibited goods would help change the narrative of prison life.
The event was chaired by H.E. HRM Drolor Bosso Adamtey, the Se Mantse of the Shai Traditional Area, who described the exhibition as particularly significant because rehabilitation and successful reintegration are central to the correctional mandate and consistent with the Service’s Think Prisons 360 Degrees initiative. He commended the Director-General for creating a platform where inmates’ talents to come to light.
The Special Guest of Honour, Hon. Sampson Ahi, Deputy Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, said the exhibition proves that life is a journey and resilience is what enables people to rise above adversity and embrace transformation.
As part of the programme, guests were allowed to tour the exhibition centre, where artworks and other creative pieces by Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie and inmates were beautifully displayed. This was followed by an auction of some of the exhibited artworks to raise funds to support inmate reformation and the development of creative arts centres in various prison facilities.
