PRISON SERVICE TO PRODUCE SANITARY PADS, UNIFORMS AND FURNITURE FOR SCHOOLS

The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Education have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the production of sanitary pads, uniforms, and furniture by the Ghana Prisons Service for schools across the country.

With this agreement, a minimum of 30% concession is allocated for the production and supply of school furniture by the Ghana Prisons Service, and a minimum 25% concession apllies to the implementation of government’s 2025 free sanitary pads initiative.

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak mentioned that, the agreements are presented as mechanisms to ensure value for money and transparency in public procurement, by anchoring production within state-owned industrial systems.

He added that, the initiative will equip inmates with employable skills that remain beneficial after incarceration.

The Director-General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie(Esq) expressed excitement for the initiative, noting that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is a dream come through and a game changer that would help break the cycle of recidivism.
