GHANA PRISONS SERVICE PARTICIPATES IN FOUR-DAY TREE CROPS INVESTMENT SUMMIT AND EXHIBITION
The Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) has held its first-ever National Tree Crops Investment Summit and Exhibition under the theme “Sustainable Growth Through Tree Crops Investment.”
The four-day event which began on Tuesday February 17, 2026, brought together key stakeholders across the tree crops value chain, including Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and other relevant institutions.
The Ghana Prisons Service actively participated in the summit as part of efforts to explore investment opportunities within the agricultural sector. The Director-General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), attended the programme as a special guest, accompanied by the Director of Services and Prisons Business, Mr. Francis Selorm Hagbe.
The summit was graced by the President of the Republic of Ghana, HE. John Dramani Mahama, alongside the Minister for Food and Agriculture and the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry.
In his presentation, the Chief Executive Officer of TCDA, Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, highlighted the immense potential within Ghana’s tree crops sector and outlined strategic investment opportunities. He explained that the targeted crop selection under the CCORMS framework Cashew, Cocoa, Oil Palm, Rubber, Mango, and Shea has been carefully aligned with Ghana’s agro-ecological zones to maximise productivity and sustainability.
Dr. Osei Okrah also proposed a national policy initiative that would encourage mandatory tree crop cultivation among public and civil servants, Members of Parliament, and government appointees as a strategy to strengthen the sector.
In his address, President Mahama underscored the importance of building economic resilience, cautioning against over-reliance on a single commodity export. He described the TCDA initiative as timely and forward-looking, noting that diversification through tree crop investment would significantly enhance sustainable economic growth.
The President officially launched the exhibition and toured various exhibition stands, bringing prestige and momentum to the remaining days of the summit.
