GHANA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION PAYS A VISIT TO THE NSAWAM MEDIUM SECURITY PRISON
The Ghana Football Association Foundation, on Wednesday July 10th 2024, visited the Nsawam Medium Security Prison with the aim of utilizing football to promote the well-being, welfare, reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration.
This initiative in its initial phase has already engaged several Prison facilities including Akuse local Prison, Sunyani (both male and female) Prisons, Senior Correctional Center, Nsawam Medium security Prison with Winneba set to join soon.
The projects broad objectives include providing football equipment, referee training courses and advocacy workshops.
The Prison Inmates and the Prison Officers displayed their talents in a football match which ended goalless for both teams.
The Director of GFA foundation Malcolm Frazier Appeadu, in a speech addressed the gathering saying, “anyone can end up in prison. The prison is a second chance offered to you to reform and contribute better to the society when you come out. As such sports will help develop your talents and also be a means to promote peaceful coexistence between the officers and the inmate”.
The foundation generously donated jerseys for both inmates and officers, footballs, referee kits and other necessary items to strengthen the Nsawam Prisons League.
The Eastern Regional Commander, ADP. Thomas Seidu received the donation on behalf of the Director General of Prisons, and emphasized the timely nature of the support for the ongoing Prison league and used the opportunity to encourage philanthropists to assist incarcerated individuals in their rehabilitation journey.
