NSAWAM MEDIUM SECURITY PRISON HOLDS SIGN LANGUAGE TRAINING FOR OFFICERS.

The Nsawam Medium Security Prison has organised a five-day Ghanaian Sign Language (GhSL) training programme for selected officers to enhance effective communication and promote inclusiveness in the administration of correctional services.

The programme was facilitated by Mr. Stanley Samahnyia, Assistant Headmaster of Mampong Senior Technical School for the Deaf, and Mr. Manuel Adatsi, who provided participants with practical knowledge and skills in Ghanaian Sign Language.

The training is aimed at equipping officers with the ability to communicate more effectively with persons who are deaf or hard of hearing, particularly within correctional facilities where clear communication is essential to safety, rehabilitation and the delivery of services.

The programme also forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the capacity of prison officers and promote an inclusive correctional environment where every individual can access information and communicate their needs irrespective of communication barriers.

The training brought together officers from the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, Nsawam Female Prison, Koforidua Local Prison, Nsawam Camp Prison, Akuse Male and Female Prisons, and Forifori Camp Prison.
