SEKONDI CENTRAL PRISON COMMENCES VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR INMATES.
The Education Unit of Sekondi Central Prison, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) Complementary Education Unit, has commenced a vocational training for inmates to promote employable skills and successful reintegration.
Twelve inmates have received practical training in dressmaking, kaftan production and stitching at the prison’s tailoring shop, with preparation towards National Certificate I.
The Head of Education, DSP Michael Assabil, disclosed plans to establish additional vocational centres for skills including plumbing and masonry.
The initiative forms part of the Service ’s reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration agenda, while stakeholder support will help expand opportunities for inmates to gain recognised qualifications, employment skills and self-reliance upon release.
