PRILAS HOLDS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The Prisons Ladies Association (PRILAS) of the Ghana Prisons Service held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the VIP Hall of the Prison Officers’ Training School, Roman Ridge, on Thursday, 18th June 2026.
In her welcome address, the Director-General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, Esq., noted the remarkable growth of PRILAS nationwide. Reflecting on the theme, “When ‘She’ Leads, the System Heals: Women Driving Prison Excellence,” she emphasized the critical role women play in shaping families, institutions, and communities.
She commended the association for its steady progress and paid tribute to its past leaders for laying a solid foundation for its growth. Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie also outlined several initiatives aimed at enhancing the welfare of members. These include the establishment of a daycare centre operating from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to support nursing mothers, with the first facility to be located in Nsawam; the development of a “Prisons and PRILAS Village”; a water production project within the Nsawam enclave; and the introduction of an annual awards scheme to recognize members who excel in their respective fields.
Representatives from sister security-service associations, namely the Police Ladies Association (POLAS), Fire Service Ladies Association (FISLA), Immigration Ladies Club (IMILAC), and the Ghana Revenue Authority Ladies Club (GRALC), delivered solidarity messages and pledged their continued support for the association.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Sabia Kpekata described the theme as both timely and profound. She noted that organizations thrive when women are empowered to lead and highlighted Ghana’s National Gender Policy as a key framework for promoting equality and ensuring the full participation of women in national development. She encouraged members to continually build their professional capacities and competencies so they would be well-positioned to lead with integrity whenever opportunities arise.
Also present at the event were Madam Nana Yaa Jantuah, Presidential Staffer, representing the Deputy Chief of Staff; Madam Sabia Kpekata, representing the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection; and Madam Freda Faah, representing the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
The meeting concluded with policy reviews, followed by the election, induction, and swearing-in of new executive officers to steer the affairs of the association and advance its mission.
