PRISONS SERVICE HOLDS 4TH HIV WORKSHOP.
The Ghana Prisons Service, in collaboration with the National AIDS Control Programme, held its fourth HIV Workshop on Friday, 21st August, 2026, at the Plush Royal Hotel, Adenta
The workshop was organised to help health officers improve the handling of HIV in prisons and deal with public stigmatization while ensuring inmates and officers are treated with dignity and respect.
The Director of Prisons in charge of Health, DOP Joana Fofo Tackie-Otoo (Mrs.), said the training will help officers better understand HIV in prisons. She explained that, the workshop is meant to equip caregivers with the right knowledge, mindset and values to help them in their duties.
During the training, resource persons from USAID made presentations to refresh and strengthen the knowledge and skills of prison health officers and HIV focal persons.The presentations covered topics like HIV Prevention, Stigma and Discrimination, Care and Treatment in Prisons, and linkage to health and community-based services following release from custody.
