INTERIOR MINISTER DONATES TO PRISONS SERVICE

   The Minister for the interior, Honorable Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has donated assorted food items to the Ghana Prisons Service to support inmates feeding for the Ramadan season, at the Prisons Headquarters.

    The items include one thousand (1000) bags of rice, four hundred and seventeen (417) boxes of sunflower cooking oil, two hundred (200) boxes of tasty tom tinned tomatoes.

     The gesture forms part of the Minister’s efforts to support and equip the Ghana Prisons Service and make it very attractive and efficient. Hon. Mubarak Muntaka (MP) mentioned that, he reached out to Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, a global businessman and philanthropist to support prison inmates during this Ramadan period and his request was granted, hence the donation of the items.

       Reiterating his promise to support the Prisons Service, the Minister hinted on a presentation of fifteen (15) pick-up vehicles to the Ghana Prisons Service out of a total of fifty (50)  pick-up vehicles that will be distributed by the Interior ministry in due time.

        The Director General of Prisons Service, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (ESQ) in her remarks, acknowledged the Minster’s willingness and undoubtful quest to support the Prisons Service and expressed gratitude for the opportunity given her to work with the Minister as the Director – General of the  Service.

         DGP. Baffoe-Bonnie (ESQ) explained to the Minister, the need for all officers to receive the contagious diseases allowance which is currently being paid to only a handful of Prison personnel because they work in a prison that is designated as a contagious disease prison and pleaded with him to facilitate the restoration of some operational allowances for officers in the Ghana Prisons Service. The Director General hinted on some strategic innovations that will support the vision of the Minister in making the Prison Service an enviable institution in Ghana. She assured the Minister of the preparedness and readiness of the Prisons Administration and staff, to support his vision and work assiduously to achieve the mandate of the Service to give it a global recognition.

       The donated items would be presented to selected prison facilities including Nsawam Medium Security, the Ankaful prisons complex, Koforidual Local, Tamale Central, Sunyani Central, Amanfrom Camp and Manhyia local Prisons.
