DIRECTOR GENERAL OF PRISONS VISITS NEW TRAINING FACILITY AT FUMSO
The Director General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (ESQ), has made a significant visit to the newly established Prison Officers Training School at Fumso in the Adansi Asokwa district in the Ashanti region, on Monday, September 15, 2025. Her primary focus was on enhancing the welfare of officers and trainees by ensuring the facility meets the required standards.
Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie was accompanied by the acting Commandant of the facility, DDP. Justice Essumang. She inspected key areas such as the dormitories, washrooms, the infirmary, kitchen, and officers accommodations. She identified areas needing improvement to create a conducive environment for training sessions.
With 800 Prison Support Assistants currently undergoing training, the school is bustling with activities.Trainees engage in rigorous daily schedules, including drills, physical training and classroom tutorials. In her address, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie encouraged the trainees to take their training seriously and perform well in their exams, emphasizing the importance of their role in the prison service.
In a separate interaction with officers, she acknowledged their dedication and assured them of her support to make their stay at the facility comfortable. This visit marked the Director General’s first trip to the training school, highlighting her commitment to its success.
As part of her visit, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie paid courtesy calls on some opinion leaders, including the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Hon. Godwin Dorgbadzi-Dorani, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Albert Dakora, and the Chief of Fumso, Nana Twumasi Ankrah. She expressed gratitude for the community’s warm reception and support, which has been crucial for the training school’s operations.
The opinion leaders welcomed the training school, expressing their excitement about the benefits it brings to the community. They assured Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie of their continued support and collaboration to ensure the facility’s success.
This visit reflects the commitment to building a well-equipped and efficient prison service, with a focus on training and community engagement.
