DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF PRISONS ENGAGES CIRCUIT COURT JUDGES AT LAW COURT COMPLEX

On Thursday, 5th February 2026, the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Patience Baffoe Bonnie Esq., engaged some Circuit Court Judges at the Law Court Complex in Accra during a special lecture session.

The lecture titled “When the Gavel Falls,” focused on the core mandate of the Ghana Prisons Service and the legal framework including the relevant Acts that govern the Service.

In her address, the Director-General encouraged judges to make regular visits to various prison facilities to gain firsthand insight into the operations, conditions, and rehabilitation efforts within the prisons system.

She further highlighted key reform initiatives being implemented by the Service, the Prison Improvement and Sustainability Pesewa Fund (PISPES) and the Think Prisons 360 Degrees Initiative. She explained that the Think Prisons 360 Degrees Initiative is a comprehensive reform agenda aimed at transforming the prisons system through several key components, including Welfare of officers and inmates, Agricultural mechanization, Industrialization, Business and wealth creation, Special initiatives and interventions

The Director-General emphasized the importance of strong collaboration between the Judiciary and the Ghana Prisons Service, noting that effective partnership between the two institutions is essential for the efficient delivery of justice and correctional services.
