DGP PATIENCE BAFFOE-BONNIE INDUCTED INTO OFFICE.

The Director General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.) has been officially inducted into office at a colourful service at the Prisons Interdenominational Church in Accra, on Friday 11th April, 2025. As the 27th head of the Ghana Prison Service and the second female to occupy the enviable seat, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie pledged to lead the Ghana Prisons Service towards a brighter future where the institution will be recognized for its excellence in rehabilitation and custodial care ultimately culminating into public safety.
“We will strive to create an environment that fosters personal growth and development, safe prisons, rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders into society. I assured the president of my commitment to unveil a new Prison Service with the theme “The new Ghana Prison Service” where our focus will be on modernization and expansion of rehabilitation programmes”, she said.

Baffoe-Bonnie stressed on four key thermatic areas. This according to her include welfare of staff and inmates, modernization and expansion of the prison through training of officers in modern correctional practices, agriculture and industrialization for wealth creation and also engage in strategic relationship with stakeholders, institutions and individuals.

The Director General also mentioned that her administration will focus on three main areas with regards to agriculture. This includes poultry and animal farming, cultivation of crops such as maize, rice and cultivation of vegetables. ‘Currently we have initiated a project called the Director General’s Kitchen Support Projects at all prisons establishments and the focus is to motivate every OIC to have a small poultry of local birds to enhance the feeding of inmates’, she added.
She expressed her gratitude to the President His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the Vice President and the members of the Council of State for her appointment.

The Assistant General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God church, Ghana, Reverend Dr. Godwin Tito Agyei who gave the Sermon imployed the gathering to give off their best in whatever task assigned to them. ‘Whatever we find ourselves doing, God expects us to do the best. We must show love, commitment and work with enthusiasm as Mary Magdalene displayed in the book of Mark 14 v 6-9’, Reverend Dr. Agyei added.

The Chaplain General of the Ghana Prison Service Reverend Canon Sylvanus Adama okai also led the Director General of Prisons through the induction rites. The induction service was attended by top officials of the Judicial Service, Security agencies, government officials, traditional rulers, Prisons Directorate, former Director Generals of Prisons and the clergy.

Among them were Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana and also the husband to the DGP, the Deputy Minister for Interior Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Minority leader Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin,some notable Members of Parliament, the Commissioner General of the Eswatini Correctional Service Madam Dlamini Phindile Nomvula and Madam Gabsile Zanele Manyatsi the Assistant Commissioner of the Eswatini Correctional Service.

The rest were His Lordship Justice Henry Kwofie, Her Ladyship Avril Lovelace Johnson, some Justices from the Appeal Courts, Gbese Mantse Dr. Nii Ayi BonteII, Ankobeahene of Budua Nana Baffour Kwame Annor, Kokomlemle Mantse Nii Ayikwe Kakalor I and Dome Mantse Nii Adu Ablego and some members of Diplomatic corps.
