MOU BETWEEN THE ENERGY COMMISSION OF GHANA AND THE GHANA PRISONS SERVICE
The Energy Commission of Ghana and the Ghana Prisons Service have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enroll a laudable project which seeks to provide inmates and officers with skills in conducting internal electrical wiring through training and certification.
The project would help promote the rehabilitation of the inmates through furnishing them with self-employable skills, which is critical to their smooth social reintegration, and also reduce the tendency of re-offending upon discharge.
According to the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Ing. Oscar Amonoo-Neizer, the first step of the project is to collaborate with the Prisons Service to register and facilitate the training of some inmates and officers at the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons for the domestic wiring category in preparation for the final examination in December 2023.
Ing. Amonoo-Neizer mentioned that a succession plan will be put in place which will ensure that successful officers will be enlisted as trainers and in turn train other officers and inmates in other correctional facilities nationwide to acquire certification as Electrical wiring professionals.
The Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir commended the Commission for the initiative and pledged his unflinching support to ensure that the project becomes a success.
